The goal of the Festival is to show how, with the help of modern informational technologies, a man can not only transfer his feelings of value, beauty and peculiarity of cultures of peoples inhabiting the Earth but also reveal their deep commonness giving us hope for mutual understanding and interaction of separated worlds. The Festival will take place in M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University on the eve of its 250 th anniversary. This poses in front of the organizers a grave problem of determining the place of visual anthropology among different domains of science and art, of mass media and new informational technologies, of education and sociocultural practices. The main informational presentation will be followed by discussions of films as seen from positions of various scientific disciplines, by opinion polls and by the contest for audience preferences. On the closing conference problems of preserving cultural heritage and philosophical, psychological, educational, esthetic and technological aspects of visual anthropology will be discussed. A contest of debuts makes it possible for professional researchers and students to compete on equal terms. There will be exhibitions of photographs and of modern informational equipment in the foyer of the conference hall. Thematic reviews and workshops related to school education, TV, presenting visual anthropology schools of various countries will be held on separate sites. Archive films, films dedicated to Northern peoples, to countries of Muslim world, of Caucasus etc. We invite : 2. Specialists studying problems of visual anthropology, its possibilities and use in science, education, art, informational technologies, mass media. A text up to 2 pages, in Russian or English, a short summary (up to 10 lines) and an application (electronic text) are to be presented for selection. Propaganda and advertisement films and materials which offend dignity and create hostility between peoples are not accepted. Applications and films must be presented by February 1, 2004. Copies of films will not be returned. Selected films will be included into the video collection of the Organizational Committee for non-commercial use (if permitted by the authors).
